My full name is Luca Coppini, and since I’m very, very talkative, if you want to know more about me just get in contact. That said, I’m going to write something about me and diving — two things that shaped most of my life.

My journey into diving started back in 2007. Before that moment I was snorkeling every possible time. Then, tThat first breath underwater hooked me instantly. I didn’t know it then, but it would shape the next two decades of my life.

In 2013 I became an Open Water Diver in Gili Trawangan, Indonesia, and even though I had to return to Italy for work, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wanted more. I kept training — Advanced, Rescue — even doing my rescue course in an Italian lake, freezing cold!!! At some point I realized I wasn’t just learning to dive anymore. I was slowing transitioning toward what it meant to become a professional diver.

That curiosity took me back to Gili Trawangan (wy first contact was my PADI Open Water Instrcutor for guidance), where I completed my Divemaster and later my Instructor Development Course. Around the same time, I discovered technical diving, which pushed me to refine my skills, understand diving on a deeper level, and become a more complete diver and instructor.

I worked as a freelance instructor, then spent two years teaching full time at the same school where I had trained as a Divemaster. I became a technical diving instructor. Back in Europe I kept teaching whenever I could — lakes, oceans, holidays — and I was lucky enough to dive some incredible wrecks in the Mediterranean, christal clear waters in the Maldives, the colourful Red Sea, the amazing Sulawesi, and of course the magic Komodo National Park.

After ten years in the industry, I felt it was time to take the next step. I started my path toward becoming a Course Director, guided by my mentor Holly, the person who taught me how to teach in the first place. A long journey full of rewarding moments and amazing people.

Today I’m a Course Director at Blue Marlin Komodo, where I run Instructor Development Courses in one of the most exciting and challenging environments in the world. Komodo’s currents, landscapes, and marine life create the perfect training ground for divers who want to grow, push themselves, and become confident professionals.

My focus now is simple:

“To mentor the next generation of instructors and help them turn their passion into a real career.”
