12 years ago I became a SCUBA Diving Instructor

Why I still do it.
Why I did it in the first place! I was wandering in Indonesia, on a diving break. You know, one of those times when you’re not really looking for adventures or big changes.
I ended up on Gili Trawangan and did (actually re‑did) my Open Water course. I still keep the photo they took of me at the end of the dive — that smile, the happiness I felt, that feeling like nothing else in the world could bother me anymore… priceless.
Right then and there I got the idea: why not try to turn something that had only been a hobby into a real job? Becoming a scuba diving professional suddenly didn’t feel impossible anymore.
I went back to Italy and started evolving — Advanced, Rescue, Deep, Nitrox… whatever got me closer to my goal of becoming a Divemaster and eventually a SCUBA Diving Instructor.
Then I contacted my Instructor, and this was a very, very important step. He guided me on where to do my Divemaster training, with whom, and he gave me the tips I needed. I was hooked. What I thought was difficult and unreachable suddenly became doable.
I wasn’t a kid — I had already passed my forties — but my instructors guided me because they knew what was pushing me. They became friends and mentors after all.
Then I became an Instructor. I started teaching and enjoying my students, my colleagues, and of course the ocean, the vibes, the sun, the island life, and all the possibilities that opened up in front of me. Teaching scuba diving became more than a job; it became a lifestyle.
Now I am a Course Director. I dedicated my life to teaching others how to do what changed my life. When one of my students carries on, becomes a professional, or simply stays in contact, my day is done. I am happy. And if you want to get in touch just drop me text.
I will always thank every single one of you, my students, for being there.
Good luck guys, and long life to the sea…
Luca (Professor_scuba)
